The Antica Locanda Locanda al Gambero is a lovely, bright 3-star hotel located 3 minutes from Piazza San Marco, (St Mark's Square). It also has elegant rooms overlooking the canal and its reception is opened 24 hours a day.
Hotel Antica Locanda al Gambero is located 150 meters from Piazza San Marco, (St Mark's Square) and from the Ponte di Rialto ( Rialto Bridge), in a lively calle ( typical Venetian alley), right in the historical centre of Venice.
Reception is open 24 hours , free internet connection in the foyer, Italian and international papers, TV room.
The Antica Locanda Al Gambero has 30 rooms of different types. They are all bright, large and comfortable and most of them overlook a picturesque canal.
All rooms are equipped with satellite TV, mini-bar, safety box, direct dial line, coffee and tea maker, air conditioning.
Buffet breakfast based on a vast selection of savoury and sweet dishes, hot and cold drinks, typical Venetian cakes and the traditional Italian coffees.
The Hotel restaurant Le Bistrot de Venise offers typical refined Venetian, Italian and international dishes with a vast choice of wines.
The restaurant overlooks a campiello (typical Venetian little square) at the bottom of a bridge, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
The Antica Locanda Al Gambero is centrally located at 3 minutes walk to Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square) and 5 minutes from Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge). It is one of the best located 3-star hotels in Venice.
The hotel is in Calle dei Fabbri, one of the most popular and traditional Venetian streets, where it is very pleasant to stroll while admiring the beautiful little streets, museums and famous monuments. It is placed at the bottom of Ponte de le Pignate, set in a maze of narrow streets with small traditional and handcraft shops, boutiques, historical cafes and Bacari (traditional inns).
At the end of the Calle dei Fabbri, go through the so called Sottoportego del Dai, (a passage between buildings), and you will get to Piazza San Marco. The Basilica di San Marco (St Mark's Cathedral) with its sparkling mosaics framed by the arcades of the Procuratie, where you will find boutiques, historical cafes such as Florian and Quadri, the pink, light bulk of Palazzo Ducale, one of the most important monuments of Venetian gothic architecture, stretching out up to the dock of San Marco.
The bell tower stands out in the main square, together with the beautiful Loggia Sansoviniana (Arcade).
A visit to the Palazzo Ducale will be one of the most unforgettable Venetian experiences. Various itineraries will lead you to the lushness of the “ Serenissima” to revive the history and vicissitudes of the dogi and other illustrious personalities such as Giacomo Casanova whose escape from the Piombi (the prisons) can still nowadays be revived in the Itinerari Segreti (secret itineraries) in the rooms which once host the powerful administration of Venice in the XVIII century.

From the Marco Polo Airport:
- take the bus around the aerostazione to arrive at the airport dock. Catch the Alilaguna motorboat for Piazza San Marco (blue, red, or gold), where you will disembark. From here, continue on foot: cross Piazza San Marco to find Calle dei Fabbri (at the Caffè Quadri), cross two bridges, and at the foot of the second bridge, at No. 4687, you will find the Hotel Antica Locanda al Gambero.
From Treviso San Giuseppe Airport:
- take the Atvo Eurobus shuttle for Venice and get off at Piazzale Roma. Take the Actv vaporetto n. 1 or 82 for Rialto. From Rialto, if you used line 82, walk to the Line 1 landing (about 15 meters). From the exit of the Line 1 landing, find Calle Bembo, directly before you. Go down Calle Bembo, pass the intersection and continue straight ahead for about 3 minutes. The Hotel al Gambero is to your left, at the foot of the picturesque bridge.
By train: from the Venezia Santa Lucia train station, go to the fondamenta in front of the station and take the Actv vaporetto line 1 or 82 for Rialto. From Rialto, if you used line 82, walk to the Line 1 landing (about 15 meters). From the exit of the Line 1 landing, find Calle Bembo, directly before you. Go down Calle Bembo, pass the intersection and continue straight ahead for about 3 minutes. The Hotel al Gambero is to your left, at the foot of the picturesque bridge.
By car: at the tollbooth exit, take the Mestre bypass and follow the signs to Venezia. Cross the long Ponte della Libertà (Liberty Bridge) connecting Venice to the mainland, and park your car in the Tronchetto garage (at the end of the Ponte della Libertà, to the right) or at the garage of Piazzale Roma, the auto terminal (the San Marco Garage is affiliated with the Hotel al Gambero: 10% discount from 1 April to 31 October and 20% discount from 1 November to 31 March). Take the Actv vaporetto line 1 or 82 for Rialto. From Rialto, if you used line 82, walk to the Line 1 landing (about 15 meters). From the exit of the Line 1 landing, find Calle Bembo, directly before you. Go down Calle Bembo, pass the intersection and continue straight ahead for about 3 minutes. Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero The hotel was in a PERFECT location. The window overlooked the water and gondola's would sail right past. It was amazing! A short walk to San Marcos square and many restaurants and shops! The price was fabulous, the room clean and staff super friendly! The room was small but we weren't in it much. We were glad to have a private bathroom as many places in Europe have shared bathrooms- ick. We enjoyed spending Christmas here and will definitely return to Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero again!

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero We were very satisfied with our room which was superior with its balcony.. The breakfast was excellent and the overall amenities and personnel were outstanding. We highly recommend this hotel and it's excellent restaurant on the premises. The hotel is right in the middle of every area of importance to see.

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero The stay was wonderful. Gorgeous view from balcony. Clean, well equipped and well stocked room with kitchen and bathroom. Well worth the steps up and down to the property. Helpful, friendly hosts. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero Lovely hotel. I thought it was one of the best-looking I saw in Venice. It was very easy to find and located in an excellent spot. I thought that the breakfast information on the website was exaggerated, otherwise it was a very enjoyable experience.

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero Great location but 4 floors, no lift and only rarely had porters. Room was small but nice but very noisy air conditioning. May be better for an Italian speaking guest but english speaking guests did not seem very welcome.

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero we loved this hotel. the decoration was interesting, the location was great. staff, especially the reception staff, were helpful and friendly. to be honest we were glad to get the discounted online rate as the 'real' price for the room would have been very expensive. but it was lovely!!!

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero very close to san marco square - was a factor in the choice. not having a lift is a negative breakfast room was good. only stayed one night so difficult to guage properly directions given to reach the hotel from the station were good, but could give better estimate of distance to walk from the water was further than expected from online information

Hotel Antica Locanda Al Gambero Hotel = fabulous. Room and public areas exceptionally clean and well-appointed. Bathroom squeezed for space. Concierge and reception extremely helpful = arranged for water taxi at 4 am, ex. Closest water taxi drop is Rialto, then short walk [long, if dragging luggage] down picturesque Calle de Fabbri. Equidistant [@10 min walk] from Rialto and Piazza San Marco. Fabulous location. Cafe and restaurant good quality. You should update travelers about Venice's new[?] no-smoking indoors anywhere policy, including the airport -- not even a lounge. Even in outdoor cafes, you have to ask for an ashtray. Surprising in Europe. Your site has been very helpful in our vacation planning this summer. Thanks. Brown & Hughes
